In division 1 and 2 we will have a two group or 5 where everyone plays each other in the group and then qualifies for a knockout round which will give all teams 4 group games plus at least one knockout round. The eight remain Longford clubs will make up two groups of four teams who will play each team in their group and then qualify for a knockout round. This makes up phase 1 of our U12 season and phase 2 will kick in with just the Longford Clubs as they compete in the Longford League which will conclude in early October. Schools Coaching Our Urban initiative enters its last week this week, to date the urban project has been working really well with great co-operation from all who are taking part with the highlight each week being the 150 odd kids who take part in the blitzes in St. Mels College. We have organised five Go Games blitzes for 3rd and 4th class kids that will commence and run throughout the month of May. All schools have been contacted and the dates and location of the blitzes are as follows: Ballymahon GAA Grounds TUESDAY 12th May Dromard GAA Grounds THURSDAY 14th May Granard GAA Grounds TUESDAY 19th May Longford Slashers GAA Grounds WEDNESDAY 20th May Longford Slashers GAA Grounds THURSDAY 21st May Last Wednesday brought the curtain down on our Post Primary activity for the year as five schools competed in our end of year first year finals in Clonguish GAA. All schools played 3 round robin games as Lanesboro CC went home early and with Mercy Ballymahon and St. Mels B qualifying for the Division 3 final and Cnoc Mhuire & ArdScoil contest the Division 2 final that was an all Granard affair. Considering all the rain we had leading up to and after the blitz we got a great couple hours for the competition itself. After three hours of football Mercy Ballymahon and Cnoc Mhuire ran out the victors. Development Squad Our U14 hurlers had two very good games at home against Louth and Leirtim two weekends ago. In game one they played Leitrim where it was a good tight game with Longford coming out on top. In game two Louth were just too strong for Longford but 25 of Longford players all got game time which bodes well for the future. Our U16 hurlers played Leitrim,  who had a very good win but will now take a break until after the exams. Our U16 footballers travelled to Mayo to play two games against the Connaght Kingpins. It was only their second game of the year with another good performance by all and a few players to come back after injury. They travel to the Downes in Mullingar on Saturday to play Louth and Offaly before the break for exams. Our U15 football squad are at home this weekend against Sligo, Clare and Louth in Longford Slashers while our U14 squad travel to Thurles to play Wexford, Offaly and Tipperary. All football squads will have a coaching session on Thursday evening in preparation for the up coming national blitzes. All updated development squad news can be got on the Longford GAA website at http://longfordgaa.ie/development-squad-news/ Kelloggs GAA Cúl Camp Dates The Kellogg’g GAA Cúl Camp website is now live and the bookings have already started to come through thick and fast as the TV advert rolls and the promotional material appears on boxes of Cornflakes and Rice Krispies.
