Schools Hurling Our indoor hurling program for kids of 2nd – 4th classes continued last week with St. Emers and Glen primary schools in attendance. These blitzes will take place every Friday until Christmas as well as some other random days during the week as demand has been so strong these extra dates and venues had to be sourced. As part of partaking in these blitz days Kathlyn will also be visiting those schools and taking coaching sessions with those kids who will be participating. Again the demand for a program like this shows the interest there is for hurling within our primary schools and Kathlyn looks forward to harnessing this in the months ahead.  Teacher Training This Friday we are running a Rounders workshop for Primary school teachers. The WS is open for all teachers to attend but places must be booked with Grace Mc Gauran in Sacred Heart Granard in advance. The WS will take place in Edgeworthstown Sports Hall. TY Programs Our Primary football blitzes recommenced last Friday in St. Mels College as 120+ kids from St. Michaels and St. Emers were in attendance. This Friday sees us visit Abbeylara and Carrickedmond where approximately 170 kids from 6 schools will be in attendance. This will be week 7 of 10 in the program. 10 TY students from St. Mels (6) and Cnoc Mhuire (4) help organise the blitzes and then manage a team each while also refereeing the games. Paul Barden Tournament Finals The Paul Barden Football Development Tournament was held for the second year. It consisted of the top 80 footballers from U14 and U15 in the County. There were four equal teams picked and coached by our Development Squad mentors. Each team got to play three 15-aside group games with then a Cup or Shield final played. Over the four weeks of games some excellent football was played with the finals night being the best night of football with both games being decided by only 1 point. The Blue and Golds won the Cup final after beating the Midlanders and in the Shield final Th Davins came out on top over the O Farrells. The Blue and Gold team received a specially customised jersey with all other players receiving a beanie hat. It was a very worthwhile tournament again and some of these players will now be picked for the various Development Squads in 2017. Thanks to both Clonguish GAA and Killoe GAA for the use of their pitches throughout the tournament. Longford GAA Master Fixtures & Events Calendar There is a link on our website which allows anyone to download our Masters Fixtures document as any time. This document is the template for the Official Fixtures that the Secretary distributes weekly but is not considered as Official notification of Fixtures if downloaded as only fixtures sent from the County Secretary can be considered Official. This should be people’s first port of call for information regarding Longford GAA events. We also have an Events Calendar on our website at This calendar contains everything a Longford GAA person might need to know from our full fixtures program to Club workshops to County Board meetings to National fixtures to other large sporting events so as everyone can see what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead.
