Coaching & Games: 13th Oct 2014

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section here on where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly. Award 1 Youth/Adult Coaches Course This Thursday sees the start of our Award 1 Youth/Adult coaches training course, this is the next step on from the Foundation Award and is aimed at coaches working with players from U13 through to adults. This is a very important course because in 2016 all adult teams must have a person qualified at Award 1 level involved on the management team. Places on this course are limited so please contact Damien on the number below for more information or to book your place. Schools Coaching Coaching in our first block of schools continue until the Halloween break with the second block of schools commencing after Halloween. Coaching will be once a week for 6 weeks as we take 2-3 groups from each school with these groups coming from 1st – 4th classes. Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year continues to run every week. Last week seen 1st year boys from Cnoc Mhuire Granard take part and this Thursday the 1st year boys from Ballymahon Vocational School will be in attendance. All of these blitzes take place in Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they played for an hour and 45 minutes. Teacher Trainer program Our Teacher Trainer Program continues to run in 3 schools throughout the county. What this program entails is one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football. All 3 teachers have shown great enthusiasm and engagement in the program and we are really excited by the potential of this initiative. We have already 3 more schools booked in for the New Year and we hope that this can become a useful model in years to come. Longford/Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps Anyone who couldn’t make the collections in Ballymahon, Granard or Lanesboro can pick up their gear at the GAA offices in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park between Monday & Friday from 10 – 5:30. Again thanks to everyone for your patience during this process. National Respect Exhibition Go Games Our U8 indoor football program continues this Wednesday and will run for the next 6 weeks. Our U10 program finished last week as our final 3 floodlit blitzes took place. Our U12 program has still 1 final remaining, which was postponed last week due to a bereavement within one of the clubs, the final will now take place on Saturday 18th. They will continue to run over the next two Monday nights with Cup and Shield finals taking place after that. The winners of both Cup finals will get a specially designed Longford GAA training jersey. These tournaments aim to give more quality, 15 a side games to over 70 players at each age group. Going forward all player messages regarding these games and Development Squad activities will be posted in the Coaching/Development Squad section of this website so please keep yourself informed. Results from last weeks games. U14 tournament The Davins 7-13   The Midlanders 3-9 The Pearses 10-9  Blue and Gold 5 – 20 The first game was a huge performance for The Davins with a big win over The Midlanders, but they will feel they didn’t play near their potential as they were missing some of their panel for this first game and with those being now involved for week two they will be hoping to get 2 points on the board this Monday. The second game was a cracker with The Pearses having had a huge 15 point lead at half time only for the second half to see the Blue and Golds come back to within a point with 2mins to go but The Pearses got it together at the death and pulled away by the final whistle. Hopefully the big scores keep going with some improvement on the defensive side needed from all teams. U16 tournament The Hogans 5-12 The Shannonsiders 3-8 The Cusacks 5-6 O Farrells 4-8 The two games were played in Killoe where game one seen The Hogans beat The Shannonsiders by 10 points but the score didn’t reflect the game as it was much closer with The Shannonsiders just not putting away their scores when they had ample chances. Game 2 was a very tight and competitive game with great scores and link up play throughout as The Cusacks came out on the right of a one point victory. Report of the second nights action will be in next weeks notes.   U13 Pella Our club Pella program continues for the next 3 weeks with this week blitz being the last one in Ballymahon. These blitzes are for players who are in their last year at U13 level but if clubs need a couple extra players they should bring U14 players who got little football during the year but under no circumstances are U12’s allowed to play.   Tuesday 14/10/14 U13 Pella 6:30 – 8pm Edgeworthstown Sports Hall: Killoe Óg, St. Francis, Clonguish Óg, St. Dominics Moydow Harpers Óg.
