To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.
As per contact from Damien all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries’ address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (firstname.lastname@example.org) and one for the underage section (email@example.com). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.
All Club secretaries have been notified about Longford C & G Club Development plans for 2016 as a calendar of events has been published on the Longford GAA website. This calendar will include all Club Development workshops as well as all fixtures in all competitions that affect Longford teams and will be continually updated in real time so the most up to date information will always be close to hand.
20/20 Club Audit reports have been sent to the official GAA email address of all Underage and Adult Club secretaries. These reports have been drawn up based on the Clubs engagement with 20/20’s programs and initiatives and should be used as a basis to plan for 2016. Elements of the report can also be used to address issues at upcoming AGM’s.
This need for more trained First Aiders arose out of the questionnaire and SWOT Analysis sections of the Club Audits as nearly every Club highlighted this as an area that needed improvement. Congratulations to the 4 Clubs who had representatives in attendance at our first course completed by 12 people. We have a second course book out by 12 more members from two of those Clubs, which is an excellent response. So to those 14 or so other Clubs not represented it would be nice to know how you plan to address the problem of the lack of First Aiders if no one attends the courses..? If there is additional demand we can schedule any number of courses but each course must contain 12 people. Please make contact with Damien ASAP.
Last Saturday both our U15 and U16 football squads for 2016 travelled to AIT Sports Arena to begin their planning profiling. The day consisted of an athletic ability assessment; speed, agility and fitness testing. 61 players took part on the day with some very good scores. The player’s results will now be compared to other development squads in Leinster and programs will be drawn up. Both squads have begun to try and improve their performance with their indoor athlete development sessions that are held every Monday night.
Development Squad Mentors
As part of “20/20 Vision For Longford”, Longford GAA are now looking to recruit mentors for our various Development Squads (U13, U14, U15 & U16) for the 2016 season. The role of mentor within our squad system is a very rewarding one and comes with great responsibility, as you will help mold Longford’s footballers of the future. All our squad mentors are facilitated with up skilling courses and involved in a program of continuous learning. All mentors will receive Longford gear and will be supported by Coaching & Games regarding planning and logistics. If you are interested please make contact with Damien at firstname.lastname@example.org or 087 912 6556
Schools coach will finish up this week until mid January. The closing date for our indoor hurling competition is this Friday so any schools interested should get their application forms returned ASAP.
This Friday we will hold the last of our 2nd, 3rd and 4th class blitzes as we set up kamp in Grattan Gaels where we will welcome the kids from Stonepark, Gaelscoil and Abbeylara. Last Friday did not take place due to the heavy rain during the week but this was only the 2nd blitz that we lost over the last 10 weeks. This program has taken a lot of organsing and coordination but it has been well worth it to have had well in excess of 1300 kids play football where otherwise these kids would not have got organised games until next seasons Go Games.
This program would not be possible without the assistance of 4 TY students from both Cnoc Mhuire & St. Mels as they completed a 10 day work placement with us and relly were excellent throughout. I would also like to thank their parents for transporting the TY’s throughout the county.
Our primary schools have also been advised of a nutrition and health promotion workshop that we are offering to schools after Christmas and schools have been invited to request this program if they are interested. 19 of our 38 schools have requested the program with the schedule almost full so if interested contact should be made as soon as possible.
Our program of 1st year Pella finishes for 2015 on Thursday week the 17th with the boys from Moyne CS. The final Post Primary outdoor date takes place this Thursday as 9 school teams of 1st years take part in two divisions of our Super 10’s.
Wednesday December 9th will see us host a girls U14 blitz take place in Mostrim GAA involving 4 longford schools. This blitz will be used to assist the schools in preparation for their competition after Christmas.
