Our U12 Longford Leitrim competition is now complet with both finals taking place in the last 10 days. In the Shield final Fenagh St. Cailins took on Allen Gaels in an all Leitrim final played in Carrick On Shannon with Fenagh St. Cailins coming out on top, in the Cup final, which took place last Friday in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, there was a clash of the town teams as the undefeated St. Marys from Carrick On Shannon took on Longford Slashers. On a wet night where conditions were not easy both teams showed a lot of good touches and use of the ball with the game played at a high tempo. St. Marys were the physical bigger team and Longford Slashers struggled to get in side the scoring zone as this area was well marshaled with St. Marys picking off their scores on the counter attack as Slashers dominated play for long periods. On the turnover Slashers again had a lot of ball but some excellent defending, goalkeeping and some wayward shooting resulted in St. Marys always having Slashers at arms reach and at the final whistle St. Marys remained undefeated and no one from any of the 5 Longford clubs will deny that they were the best team throughout the competition and were worthy winners. We would like to comment Longford Slashers on the manner in which they played the game and for showing their appreciation for the winners at the end of the game. This competition has been a great success and we would hope to run it again next year with a few tweeks to make it even better again.
Our Longford Cup competition will now get underway and will coincide with our Shield/Plate competitions as games taking place on Thursday nights mainly with the exception of Ballymore Shamrocks fixtures, which will take place on Monday evenings. Fixtures for all these games will be printed here on a weekly basis but please seewww.longford.gaa.ie/gogames for a complete fixture list for all Go Games age groups.
