To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.
As per contact from Damien all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries’ address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (firstname.lastname@example.org) and one for the underage section (email@example.com). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.
Development Squad Mentors
As part of “20/20 Vision For Longford”, Longford GAA are now looking to recruit mentors for our various Development Squads (U13, U14, U15 & U16) for the 2016 season. The role of mentor within our squad system is a very rewarding one and comes with great responsibility as you will help mould Longford’s footballers of the future. All our squad mentors are facilitated with up skilling courses and involved in a program of continuous learning. All mentors will receive Longford gear and will be supported by Coaching & Games regarding planning and logistics. If you are interested please make contact with Damien at firstname.lastname@example.org or 087 912 6556
Award 1 Youth Course Review
Over the last 4 months we have conducted 5 Award 1 youth courses in 5 different clubs that was completed by 40 coaches. This program was trialed in Longford by Leinster GAA with the vision of rolling it our province wide in 2016. To this end a review was held on Monday last to review the program. Unfortunately one club was not represented at all which was very disappointing considering all the work that had been put into delivering the course. Of the other four clubs we had 18 coaches attend and the feedback we got was invaluable and will assist in developing the course further for its provincial roll out.
County Final Half Time Games
Last Sunday seen the U8 & U10 boys and girls from Shannon Gaels and St. Brigid’s take part in the half time games of the Intermediate final and we hope everyone enjoyed the day and we would also like to thank the team mentors who facilitated this opportunity for these kids. Similar activities will be arranged for the Senior final in two weeks time. We will also be making a special presentation to those coaches who completed their Award 1 course over the last number of months.
The U13 Skills School had their last skills session on Saturday which was a great success with 54 players going through the 5 basic skills of Kicking, Soloing, Blocking, Catching and the Pick up. The next two Mondays we will be organising a 7 aside Tournament for any players that are born in 2002. It will be a mixture of players from different clubs putting their skills on show. All clubs will be contacted to give names of players who are participating in the tournament.
The U14 squad had 2 games at the weekend against Leitrim and Sligo. It was a mixed day performance wise from the players, but the real highlight was the performances of some of the players who showed huge improvement from the last day out. Consistency is something that is lacking with this group but it will come. This group will have their last skills profiling this Wednesday with results being sent out to the players next week.
Our annual U14 and U16 Development Squad Competition will run throughout the month of October on Monday nights the 5th, 12th, 19th and the finals on Thursday 22nd. All players and clubs will be notified in the coming week to put players forward.

There are still a number of clubs that need to return their Questionnaires and SWOT Analysis and clubs should get back to their facilitator as soon as possible. There are also a number of clubs who have still to confirm what developmental program they want run within their club. Paddy or Damien can be contacted in this regard.
Our urban program kicked off last week as primary school coaching took place in schools in both the Edgeworthstown & Granard areas. In both areas there was also an evening of indoor football in one of the local sports halls. This program will run for four weeks in total before we move into the Templemichael area for block two. Over the last two weeks Damien has been in contact with all schools offering them the chance to take part in some of our 2nd/3rd.4th class blitzes which will run throughout the county with the assistance of 4 TY students from both Cnoc Mhuire & St. Mels as they complete a 10 day work placement with us. The full schedule has been sent to all schools and is 95% full with only one space for a school with small numbers in the north Longford area left. Last week also seen the first of our post primary activities as three 7 a side blitzes took place in Clonguish GAA grounds for first year boys of the county. In all over 160 boys were in attendance as all six schools who attended fielded multiple teams. This was another great success for us and we would like to thank all the teachers and TY students for their assistance on the day. Our program of Pella will kick off on Thursday the 24th with Ballymahon VS 1st year boys attending at 1:30 in Edgeworthstown Sports Hall. The first of our TY courses is up and running for the year as 24 young men and women from Cnoc Mhuire Granard get trained up.
