Coaching & Games: 1st Sep 2014

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section of the Longford Leader where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.

Schools Coaching This week see’s all our primary school kids head back to school with the post primary kids having started last week. Our coaches have been in contact with all schools to agree slots for coaching between now and Christmas and coaching commenced this week. In our primary schools coaching will be once a week for 6 weeks as we take 2-3 groups from each school with these groups coming from 1st – 4th classes. Longford/Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps Anyone from Granard or Ballymahon who were unable to collect your gear from the local pitch can now collect it in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park from Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm. We are still awaiting the backpacks to be delivered so I will not be in contact with those who attended our Lanesboro camp until the bags arrive which will hopefully be before September has passed. Once they arrive we will send a text message confirming arrangements for collection. National Respect Exhibition Go Games Our U8 outdoor Go Games program is now complete with the indoor program commencing in 4 weeks time. Our U10 program will continue on Wednesday week with the floodlit blitzes and our U12 program is just reaching knockout stages. For upcoming fixtures at U8, U10 and U12 they will be confirmed in these notes on a weekly basis, see below. The league phase of our U12 competitions will be complete this week with only rearranged games left to be played and we would encourage all clubs to get these games played in the next 7 days so at the quarter finals can take place on the 11th. Respect Exhibition Go Games Longford Mini League U12 Fixtures (All games @ 7pm) 4/9/14 Clonguish Óg A Bye Longford Slashers: Longford Slashers V Granard Killoe: Killoe Óg V St. Patricks Óg 8/9/14 Ballymore: Ballymore Shamrocks V Southern Gaels 11/9/14 Quarter Finals TBC Development Squads Our U14 and U16 hurling squads both traveled to Newry to compete in the All Ireland C Blitz. Both squads had a great performances just coming up short in both finals. We will have a full report in next weeks notes. Our U14 football squad have a coaching session on Wednesday and they will play Sligo and Cavan this Saturday in double games where we will have two teams playing. The U15 squad will also take on Cavan in 2 games on Saturday. Hurling Training continues in clubs over the coming weeks, U8 – U14 in Slashers on Wednesday evenings, contact Niall on 0879344157. Coach Education & Workshops As notified to all clubs last week we will be running an Award 1 Youth/Adult Coaches course during the months of October and November, if anyone would like more information on this course or to book a place please contact Damien on the number below. Our all county programs are all complete except for our Go Games Referee course-see details below. Some of our club specific programs will include; What to do U8-U12, What to do U14-Minor, Club coaching development plan, Developing thinking players, Strength and conditioning for juvenile players, Coach mentoring program, season and session planning, spot and fix, nursery workshops etc. U13 Pella Last Tuesday night we held a demonstration of Pella – the indoor football game – in Edgeworthstown sports hall with the view to running a 6 week program at U13 level from mid September until the end of October. 11 clubs were in attendance and from initial feedback clubs were impressed with the game and we will be in contact this week to discuss how the program will run in the weeks ahead. A Plan for Longford by Longford Under the stewardship of Cyril Connor a committee has been formed to develop a plan for football within the county for the next five years, the members had their initial meeting last week and the wheels are now n motion so if anyone would like to get involved in the process or has any ideas that they would like brought to the table please contact any of the names below.
