Coaching & Games: 20th April 2015

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly. 20/20 Communication As per contact from Damien recently all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries’ address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (secretary.clubname.longford@gaa.ie) and one for the underage section (secretarybng.clubname.longford@gaa.ie). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people. 20/20 Vision For Longford Coaching Workshops Concussion Awareness Workshop On Monday the 13th we held a very successful Concussion Awareness WS in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park which was attended by 47 people, the only disappointing thing about the evening was the fact that 8 clubs were not represented which considering the WS was free of charge this was truly staggering. The WS was very informative and the resources that were provided to all those in attendance will be of great benifit in the years ahead. We would like to thank Dr. Paddy Breslin for his expert opinions and in helping to deliver the WS. In the days after the event all the resources of the night were sent to the adult and underage secretaries of the clubs who were represented for reproduction and distribution to their club members. Award 1 Youth Course All five Clubs involved in this program have now completed their 2nd session or will be completing in the days ahead to date everything has been going smoothly so we would like to congratulate and thank each club for their organisation and we look forward to the remaining four session in the weeks and months ahead. Schools Coaching Last week seen the commencement of our 5 week Urban project within the Templemichael area which seen us coach 700 kids in school and another 150 kids take part in a blitz in St. Mels. The blitzes in St. Mels would not have been possible without the assistance of Mr. Carroll and the TY girls from Scoil Mhuire who managed all the teams and refereed the games. This program is designed to get more kids in the Templemichael area participating within the GAA and getting greater engagement between parents and the local clubs. As part of this program Longford GAA, in consultation with Grattan Gaels and Longford Slashers, have developed three phases, the first phase will be sending coaches into all 7 town schools each week for a 5 week period to coach kids within their classes. The second phase will include a schools blitz every Wednesday in St. Mels College where schools can bring a class of kids and we will break them down into small sided teams and with the help of TY students who will act as team managers and referees. The third phase is a club specific program whereby each Club are requested to arrange and run a promotional activity which will be supported by C & G personnel on two occasions over the next 5 weeks. We are also in the process of organising Go Games blitzes for 3rd and 4th class kids that will commence and run throughout the month of May. Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year is drawing to a close with just the finals left over the next two weeks. This Thursday the 23rd sees the 1st year girl’s finals take place with our 1st year boys finals taking place a week later on the 30th.
