Award 1 Youth/Adult Coaches Course
On the 16th of October we start our Award 1 Youth/Adult coaches training course, this is the next step on from the Foundation Award and is aimed at coaches working with players from U13 through to adults. This is a very important course because in 2016 all adult teams must have a person qualified at Award 1 level involved on the management team. Places on this course are limited so please contact Damien on the number below for more information or to book your place.
Our coaches have been in contact with all schools to agree slots for coaching between now and Christmas and coaching commenced last week. In our primary schools coaching will be once a week for 6 weeks as we take 2-3 groups from each school with these groups coming from 1st – 4th classes.
This Friday sees the first Leinster 1st year football blitz take place with the second taking place on the last week before the Halloween break. Last Thursday also seen the start of our Post Primary Pella program for the school year as 1st & 2nd years boys from Templemichael College attended Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they played for an hour and 45 minutes, as always, all who attended had a great time and really enjoyed the games. This Thursday sees the 1st year girls from Scoil Mhuire Longford attend.
Teacher Trainer Program
Last week seen us commence our Teacher Trainer Program in 3 schools throughout the county, what this program entails is one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football. All 3 teachers have shown great enthusiasm and engagement in the program and we are really excited by the potential of this initiative. We have already 3 more schools booked in for the New Year and we hope that this can become a useful model in years to come.
Longford/Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps
Anyone from Granard or Ballymahon who were unable to collect your gear on from the local pitch can now collect it in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park from Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm. We are still awaiting the backpacks to be delivered so I will not be in contact with those who attended our Lanesboro camp until the bags arrive which will hopefully be before September has passed. Once they arrive we will send a text message confirming arrangements for collection.

Our U14 football squad played a challenge game against Leitrim on Saturday morning. Longford had 2 teams playing, in the first game our lads didn’t get going at all in the first half but improved as the game went on. The second game was of much the same where the start had a big bearing on the game. The squads skills have improved but they just didn’t click on Saturday. They now all go on to take part in the regional tournament which starts on Monday the 6th of October.
The U15 football squad had their testing day in Edgeworthstown on Saturday with their skill and fitness tests all taking place. This squad has put a lot of work into their weaker side and this showed well in the tests. They also now take part in the U15/U16 Regional Tournament in the coming weeks.

We have had great interest in our U13 Pella program so much so that we have now brought a second hall online, as we will now hold blitzes in both Edgeworthstown Sports Hall and Mercy Convent Ballymahon Sports Hall. Every club who has confirmed that they will take part has been fixtures for 4 blitzes over the course of 6 weeks. We still have 1 remaining slot available in our last blitz for what ever club wants to attend a 5th blitz – please contact Damien to book. These blitzes are for players who are in their last year at U13 level but if clubs need a couple extra players they should bring U14 players who got little football during the year but under no circumstances are U12’s allowed to play.
