There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club ( and one for the underage section ( It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.

20/20 Vision For Longford

Players are now encouraged to contact Damien on the number below to arrange an individual meeting in the weeks ahead.

We are in the process of making contact with all 19 Underage Sections about arranging the meeting with our Club Facilitators so as to go through your Club Questionnaires.

Last Saturday seen 17 coaches complete the first session of the Foundation Award at a course in St. Mels College Gym. This will be the last Foundation Award we will run this year as neither of the two courses booked out.

The Code of Ethics Course in Longford Slashers is now booked out so we are continuing to take names for a second course to be run in the weeks ahead – date, time and venue to be confirmed at a later date. Again places on this new course will be limited and must be booked in advance by contact Damien with the names of the people who wish to attend as soon as possible. This course will cost €10 per person.

Schools Coaching

We continue to roll out our program of Fundamentals with Junior and Senior infant kids from all school where those kids had not been taken from September to December. This program aims to provide all kids with the opportunity to participate in fun filled activities and games which will promote physical activity and improve all kids fundamental movement skills (Agility, Balance, Coordination, Running, Jumping, Throwing, Catching, Passing, Kicking).

This program will run weekly for 8 weeks up until the Easter holidays and will be taking place in 21 schools. We hope to be in a position to appoint a Hurling coach in the following week and this person will get straight to work within the schools and clubs of the county.

Our Indoor Hurling program continues to run weekly and will run until early March when the finals will take place. This week will see the completion of round 3 of the fixtures and depending on the seeding’s the fixtures for our finals day will be drawn up. There are 16 schools fielding 38 teams taking part and all blitzes will take place in Newtownforbes Sports Complex – all schools have been notified of the first 3 rounds of fixtures.

Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year continues to run every week. This Thursday the 26th will see the 1st year boys from Moyne CS attend. Next Thursday the 5th March will see the 1st year Girls from Cnoc Mhuire Granard attend. All of these blitzes take place in Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they play for an hour and 45 minutes.

Halftime Games

Longford’s next home NFL game is against Waterford on Sunday 8th of March which means four more schools get to take part in the half time games. These games are open to 2nd – 4th class boys and girls with the games played at 11 a side. The four schools that have been selected for this round of games are as follows: St. Matthews Ballymahon, Cloonagh (Dring), Killeen and Melview. No doubt all these boys and girls will have an enjoyable day at the home of Longford GAA Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. Longford’s final home game is against Offaly on Sunday 29th March and the four schools taking part on that day are as follows: Aughnagarron, Bunlahy, Edgeworthstown and Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes.

Teacher Trainer program

Our Teacher Trainer Program in Ballymahon, Fermoyle and Newtowncashel National Schools continues to run this week. This program will run for 6 weeks from early February until the Easter break. What this program entails is one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football.

Development Squads

Last week seen a lot of activity on the Development Squad front as both our U15 & U16 squads attended two sessions in Clonguish GAA Club. The first day for both squads consisted of a screening session (movements), Injury history profile, Speed and Power tests. The second session consisted of a fitness test and numerous skills tests. Both sessions ran off very well with a great turnout at both sessions. We will now start analysing the results and compile all the data which will be used to influence the sessions and programs these players will undertake in the year ahead.

Details of these sessions and all sessions going forward will appear on the Longford GAA website as outlined below. Both our U15 and U16 football squads for 2016 have been selected and both panels are posted on the Development Squad section of under Coaching. As well as both squads there are also details of our U13 Skills School and dates for our U14 trials. Going forward all Development Squad player messages regarding Squad activities will be posted on this website and if you click into the Coaching/Development Squad section you will find all the updated information so players and parents please keep yourself informed.
