Award 1 Youth/Adult Coaches Course
Our Award 1 Youth/Adult coaches training course which is the next step on from the Foundation Award and is aimed at coaches working with players from U13 through to adults concludes this week with the final two nights of the course taking place on Monday and Thursday in St. Mels hall. This is a very important course because in 2016 all adult teams must have a person qualified at Award 1 level involved on the management team. We had a great attendance with 19 coaches enrolled on the course that has made it a really enjoyable past few weeks.

If anyone would like to get involved in the process or has any ideas that they would like brought to the table please contact any of the names at the end of these notes.
Coaching for the second term has now recommenced again with the final 10 schools getting coached between now and Christmas. Coaching will be once a week for 6 weeks as we take 2-3 groups from each school with these groups coming from 1st – 4th classes.
Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year continues to run every week. This Thursday will see the 1st and 2nd year Boys from Ard Scoil Granard in attendance. Next Thursday will see the 1st year girls from Ballymahon VS attend. All of these blitzes take place in Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they played for an hour and 45 minutes.
Teacher Trainer program
One of the goals under School activities in 20/20 Vision For Longford was the roll out of a teacher-training program. The first phase of this Teacher Trainer Program, run in 3 schools throughout the county, is now complete after 6 weeks of coaching and mentoring. This has turned out to be one of our most successful programs as all 3 teachers and schools have really bought into it and we look forward to our follow up visits in the weeks ahead and the rollout of the nursery program in the New Year. We also have another 3 schools lined up for this program from February on. What this program entailed was one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football. All 3 teachers showed great enthusiasm and engagement in the program and we are really excited by the potential of this initiative in the years ahead.
