The 21st annual Golf Classic, sponsored by Seamus Butler MCC, took place last Saturday the 22nd of October in County Longford Golf Club. All prizes will be given out on Sunday next the 30th in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park at half time in the St. Columbas Mullinalaghta Leinster Club Championship game against Stradbally from Laois – throwin at 2pm. Our dedicated website http://www.longfordgaaminorgolfclassic.com/ contains all the winners details as well as photos from the day. We would again like to thank all our sponsors and supporters for their involvement in this great day and we look forward to your continued support in the years ahead.

Schools Hurling

Kathlyn has been busy making contact with the primary schools of the county so as to arrange a schedule of 2nd – 4th class coaching & blitz days in halls throughout the county. So far demand has been strong so extra dates and venues have to be sourced and when all is confirmed all details will be forwarded to all concerned. As part of partaking in these blitz days Kathlyn will also be visiting those schools and taking coaching sessions with those kids who will be participating. Again the demand for a program like this shows the interest there is for hurling within our primary schools and Kathlyn looks forward to harnessing this in the months ahead.

Post Primary Blitzes

Last Thursday seen approximately 240 girls from 6 schools take part in our 7 a side 1st & 2nd year blitzes in Clonguish GAA. This was an excellent days football and was really enjoyed by all those in attendance and we would like to thanks the schools for their co operation in making it such a success.

This Wednesday it is the turn of the 1st year boys who again will play a 7s blitz in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. There will be 8 teams representing 4 schools in attendance on the day.

TY Programs

Last Monday seen the TY students from Cnoc Mhuire Granard undertake their final coaching practical with a group of kids from The Sacred Heart Primary School Granard. St. Mels College are also in their coaching phase as they work with St. Michaels Boys School.

Separate to the coaching courses we have take 10 students (6 from St. Mels & 4 from Cnoc Mhuire) on work placement – every Friday for 10 weeks. We have organised a program of 2nd – 4th class Primary blitzes to take place on these Fridays where over 160 kids attend each day. The TY students help organise the blitzes and then manage a team each while also refereeing the games. They have now completed 4 weeks of blitzes and are really growing into the roles and enjoying the experience.

Longford GAA Master Fixtures & Events Calendar

There is a link on our website which allows anyone to download our Masters Fixtures document as any time. This document is the template for the Official Fixtures that the Secretary distributes weekly but is not considered as Official notification of Fixtures if downloaded as only fixtures sent from the County Secretary can be considered Official. This should be people’s first port of call for information regarding Longford GAA events.

We also have an Events Calendar on our website at http://longfordgaa.ie/cg-calendar/ This calendar contains everything a Longford GAA person might need to know from our full fixtures program to Club workshops to County Board meetings to National fixtures to other large sporting events so as everyone can see what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead. Any changes made will be updated on the calendar in real time and will constantly evolve as different scenarios arise.
