20/20 Vision For Longford
Last Friday seen the deadline pass for the submission of Regional Units to take part in our U13 League that will now take place in May. There were 10 clubs in the position where, if they wanted to compete, they would have to pair off with another club and we are delighted in that we have 4 new Regional Units to add to the original 7 participants so this will result in a higher level of competition when this competition is played off. At the Information Night every club got a questionnaire which needs to be completed by this Friday the 30th of January as our Club Facilitators will be visiting all clubs to gather and review your responses (Clubs retain this questionnaire you do not post it back). The application form used for selection of the 6 Clubs which will get to take part in our Award 1 up skilling course must be returned to Damien Sheridan, Longford GAA, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, Battery Road, Longford no later than the 30th of January.
1.0 Club Development
The aim of the Club Coaching Development section of 20/20 Vision For Longford is to initially assess exactly where a Clubs Underage Section is regarding best practice in every area of the club from Officer level to parents of nursery kids. Once this analysis is concluded the Club Development Facilitators will work with the club to identify Coaching areas of improvement and to highlight the steps that need to be taken to make these improvements. There will then be a Coaching Development Program/Workshop undertaken within all 19 Underage Sections in 2015 to address these needs.

Schools coaching will take on a different look from the beginning of February as we commence our program of Fundamentals with Junior and Senior infant kids from all school where those kids had not been taken from September to December. This program aims to provide all kids with the opportunity to participate in fun filled activities and games which will promote physical activity and improve all kids fundamental movement skills (Agility, Balance, Coordination, Running, Jumping, Throwing, Catching, Passing, Kicking).
This program will run weekly for 8 weeks up until the Easter holidays and will be taking place in 21 schools. We will also be in 6 new schools rolling out our hurling program.
Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year continues to run every week. This Thursday will see the 1st year boys from Cnoc Mhuire in attendance. Last week was cancelled due to the teachers strike. Thursday week will see the 1st and 2nd year boys from Ardscoil Phadraig attend. All of these blitzes take place in Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they play for an hour and 45 minutes.
Teacher Trainer program
As our three schools from late last year will testify our teacher trainer program was very successful and well worth doing for all those who took part. As from last September we have three more schools lined up to start in early February and we will be in contact about confirming dates and time within the next week. What this program entails is one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football.
Both our U15 and U16 football squads for 2016 have been selected and both panels are posted on the Development Squad section of www.longfordgaa.ie under Coaching. As well as both squads there are also details of our U13 Skills School and dates for our U14 trials. Going forward all Development Squad player messages regarding Squad activities will be posted on this website and if you click into the Coaching/Development Squad section you will find all the updated information so players and parents please keep yourself informed.
