Coaching & Games: 2nd February 2015

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly. 20/20 Communication As per contact from Damien recently all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (secretary.clubname.longford@gaa.ie) and one for the underage section (secretarybng.clubname.longford@gaa.ie). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people. 20/20 Vision For Longford Last Friday seen the deadline pass for the submission of the application forms for the Award 1 Coaching Course and the completion of the Club Questionnaire. By the deadline we had received 9 applications for the 6 positions so by the middle of this week the committee will have selected the lucky 6 Clubs and will inform all 9 of their fate. Within the next week contact with be made with all Clubs about arranging the meeting with our Club Facilitators so as to go through your Club Questionnaires. We have 2 Foundation Courses fixed for the coming weeks and these will be the only two courses that will be run this year. The first course takes place on Saturday 14th of February in Edgeworthstown Community Campus (behind the Primary School) and will run from 10am to 4pm. The second course will run over two nights in St. Mels College Sports Hall on Wednesday the 18th and the Tuesday the 24th of February from 7pm to 10pm each night. There is a cost of €15 per person which covers both the Foundation and the Code of Ethics Courses – if someone previously completed the Code of Ethics Course if they bring their Cert on the first night the cost is €5. The first night of our Award 1 Youth Course will take place on a collective basis in St. Mels College on Thursday 26th of February from 7pm to 10pm. All representatives from the 6 partaking Clubs will be in attendance and the remaining sessions will be conducted within each Club throughout the season. We will be hosting the Code of Ethics Course in Longford Slashers on Monday 2nd of March from 7pm to 10pm. Places on this course are limited and must be booked in advance by contact Damien with the names of the people who wish to attend as soon as possible. This course will cost €10 per person which is payable on the night. Last Monday night seen over 20 coaches take part in our School Club Link training night which took place in St. Mels College. The SCL is a program that has struggled to be implemented in a lot of Clubs in recent years so it was great to see a much stronger interest this year and Longford C&G will now continue to work with these coaches as they go about the roll out of their coaching sessions within their local schools between now and the summer. Schools Coaching Schools coaching will take on a different look from the beginning of February as we commence our program of Fundamentals with Junior and Senior infant kids from all school where those kids had not been taken from September to December. This program aims to provide all kids with the opportunity to participate in fun filled activities and games which will promote physical activity and improve all kids fundamental movement skills (Agility, Balance, Coordination, Running, Jumping, Throwing, Catching, Passing, Kicking). This program will run weekly for 8 weeks up until the Easter holidays and will be taking place in 21 schools. We will also be in 6 new schools rolling out our hurling program. This week also sees the start of our Indoor Hurling program that will run for the next four weeks. There are 16 schools fielding 38 teams taking part and all blitzes will take place in Newtownforbes Sports Complex – all schools have been notified of the first 3 rounds of fixtures. Our Post Primary Pella program for the school year continues to run every week. This Thursday will see the 1st and 2nd year boys and girls from Ardscoil Phadraig in attendance. Last week the 1st year boys from Cnoc Mhuire were in attendance. Thursday week will see the 1st year boys from Ballymahon Vocational School attend. All of these blitzes take place in Edgeworthstown Community Campus where they play for an hour and 45 minutes. Teacher Trainer program As our three schools from late last year will testify our teacher trainer program was very successful and well worth doing for all those who took part. As from last September we have three more schools lined up to start in early February and we will be in contact about confirming dates and time within the next week. What this program entails is one of our coaches going into a school and up skilling 1 teacher so that they can in turn coach all kids within the school the fundamentals and the basic skills of Gaelic Football. Development Squads Both our U15 and U16 football squads for 2016 have been selected and both panels are posted on the Development Squad section of www.longfordgaa.ie under Coaching. As well as both squads there are also details of our U13 Skills School and dates for our U14 trials. Going forward all Development Squad player messages regarding Squad activities will be posted on this website and if you click into the Coaching/Development Squad section you will find all the updated information so players and parents please keep yourself informed.
