County Final Half Time Games

What a great day we had last Sunday as 30 kids from Killoe and Abbeylara took part in 3 Go Games matches during the halftime interval on the biggest day for club football in the county. Both senior teams were also welcomed onto the pitch by a guard of honor of kids from both participating Clubs. Congratulations also to Killoe Emmet Óg on their victory and commiserations to Abbeylara.

Development Squads

Last Monday seen the final night of our U13 skills school tournament, where over 85 footballers took part in two nights of small sided games. There was some great football played over both nights with the team of Donegal coming out winners in the end. The winning team received a specially made jersey with all other players receiving a Longford beanie hat.

The U16 Paul Barden Development Squad Tournament was postponed this week but will begin next week Monday the 12th in Clonguish. The U14 Development squad tournament got underway on Monday the 5th and will continue over the next two Monday nights with the final being played on Thursday 22nd October. We will have a full report on all games in these notes next week.

Go Games Fixtures

Our Go Games fixtures are down to the final blitz, which will take place on Wednesday week. Since April 139 blitzes have taken place throughout the county ad U8 and U10 level involving outdoor, indoor and floodlite matches. This is a huge undertaking and would not be possible without the assistance of clubs, mentors, parents and most importantly all the boys and girls who take part each week, so thank you one and all.

Club Development

There are still a number of clubs that need to return their Questionnaires and SWOT Analysis and clubs should get back to their facilitator as soon as possible. There are also a number of clubs who have still to confirm what developmental program they want run within their club. Paddy or Damien can be contacted in this regard.

Schools Programs

Our urban program is now complete in the Granard and Edgeworthstown areas as we move into Longford town. The program involves primary school coaching in 5 schools as well as two evenings of indoor football in St. Mels College Sports Hall. This program will run for four weeks in total before we move to the Ballymahon area.

Last Friday we started our 2nd, 3rd and 4th class blitzes which will run for 10 Fridays in total as we will run 24 blitzes involving 1500+ kids. This program would not be possible without the assistance of 4 TY students from both Cnoc Mhuire & St. Mels as they complete a 10 day work placement with us. The full schedule has been sent to all schools and is 95% full with only one space for a school with small numbers in the north Longford area left. This Friday’s blitz will see St. Matthews NS Ballymahon, St. Marys NS Edgeworthstown and Glen NS attend two separate blitzes in Mostrim GAA grounds.

Our program of Pella continues on Thursday’s as the boys from Cnoc Mhuire Granard attended with 1st year boys in Edgeworthstown Sports Hall. This week see the boys from Templemichael College and Lanesboro CC take part.

The first of our TY courses is almost complete as 24 young men and women from Cnoc Mhuire Granard get trained up.
