Longford GAA Coaching & Games
To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section of the Longford Leader where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.
As per contact from Damien all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the Club Underage secretaries’ address ONLY. Every Underage Section has their own secretaries address ad goes along the lines as follows: (firstname.lastname@example.org). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring this accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.
Half Time Draw
We will be selling tickets for our half time draw to win €100 again this weekend in advance of the NFL Round 5 match against Tipperary which throws in at 2pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. Tickets cost €2 or 3 for €5 and can be got opposite the turnstiles on the way into the ground. All your support is greatly appreciated, as all the money will go to support the work that the 20/20 committee are doing in the promotion of Gaelic Football within the county. This money will be spent directly on projects that fall under the remit of 20/20 and will be invaluable in supporting our initiatives. Good luck to all those in the draw.
Club Underage Section Audits
Our Audit process is well under way as almost all Clubs are on schedule with meeting the deadlines set for them. The final deadline in next Monday the 14th of March when action plans needs to be submitted. Unfortunately a couple of Clubs have dragged their heals a bit and made the process more difficult than it needed to be for all concerned but we will preserver as these audits and action plans are what will help Clubs develop not just this year but in the years going forward.
Longford GAA Events Calendar
For 2016 we have introduced an Events Calendar on our website at http://longfordgaa.ie/cg-calendar/ This calendar contains everything a Longford GAA person might need to know from our full fixtures program to Club workshops to County Board meetings to National fixtures to other large sporting events so as everyone can see what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead. Any changes made will be updated on the calendar in real time and will constantly evolve as different scenarios arise. This should be people’s first port of call for information regarding Longford GAA events and a detailed schedule can even be printed off from the agenda heading.
Underage Club Workshops
The roll out of our 54 workshops for the year is well under way and will continue every Monday and Tuesday as per the calendar as outlined above. For 2016 we decided to put a comprehensive program in place where every Underage Section will receive three Workshops delivered within their own Club, for their own mentors and specific to their own Clubs needs. All these dates have been assigned and communicated to Clubs and can be found on the Calendar. Every date is on a Monday or a Tuesday running until the 28th of June.
Nutrition & Health Promotion
One of the workshops that is mandatory for all Clubs is our Parent & Child Nutrition & Health Promotion Workshop, which will be delivered by our Athlone IT Intern, and again these dates can be found on the events calendar.
Theresa started with us in mid January and has been visiting the primary schools of the County delivering a similar program to kids from 1st to 6th classes. Theresa will be delivering this workshop to two Clubs per week for the next 7 weeks. Both of last weeks Clubs found the workshop really engaging and very beneficial to both the Club and the members families. One think that has transpired since Theresa started delivering the workshop is the number of questions she has got and the interest from adults as regards their own health especially around their lunches so this is turning out to be very beneficial to all who attend.
Our primary schools Indoor Hurling Go Games blitzes are now complete. After 3 rounds of blitzes pairings for the four finals in the A section and three finals in the B section are confirmed and have been communicated to all schools. Please see the finals schedule below for all details. There were 37 teams representing 18 schools all of which were fixtured to attend three blitz days.

NFL Half Time Games
This Sunday see’s Longford take on Tipperary in round 5 of the Allianz National Football League and at half time in the game the boys and girls from 4 primary schools will take part in the mini games. The players will be from classes’ 2nd to 4th as these games are used as an opportunity to play football for those kids who would not be playing schoolboy football. As always we thank CnamB and the schools themselves for their cooperation in running these games and we hope all the girls and boys enjoy the day.
