Coaching & Games: 8th Sep 2014

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section of the Longford Leader where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly. Schools Coaching Our coaches have been in contact with all schools to agree slots for coaching between now and Christmas and coaching commenced last week. In our primary schools coaching will be once a week for 6 weeks as we take 2-3 groups from each school with these groups coming from 1st – 4th classes. Longford/Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps Anyone from Granard or Ballymahon who were unable to collect your gear on from the local pitch can now collect it in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park from Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm. We are still awaiting the backpacks to be delivered so I will not be in contact with those who attended our Lanesboro camp until the bags arrive which will hopefully be before September has passed. Once they arrive we will send a text message confirming arrangements for collection. The U14 squad played Leitrim in the first game where they had a great win with both teams showing some great skills. The second game they had a more comfortable win over a South Ulster team which ment they were through to the Final to play Louth the winners of the other group on the day. They just came up short against a very good Louth team who were back-boned by 2 Feile winning club teams. The team showed great skill on the day and no doubt if they keep improving as they have had all year they will be a force to be reckoned with in two years time. The defending champions at U16 Level was Longford who had two great wins in the group stage where they beat Louth and Leitrim with Donegal standing in their way of retaining their title. In a tight opening period Donegal pulled ahead with sharper finishing. The second half was much of the same with Donegal pulling away. A lot of these players move up to Minor grade now where they will join a good bunch which will make a very talented minor team next year. Thanks to all the mentors who coached the hurling squads this year. Our U14 football squad had a very good squad training game on Saturday with 38 players playing in a game where 1 point separated the teams. They will now meet up on the 20th before the regional Tournament takes place in October. The U15 squad had two good challenge games against Cavan at the weekend in Abbeylara. They now have their skills and athlete testing days on Saturday 20th.
