SFC Semi Final: Killoe v Dromard

Emmet Óg 2-18; Dromard 2-15 By Deniese O’Flaherty Emmet Óg booked their place in the Longford SFC Final with a three point win over Dromard in an entertaining semi-final. Sean McCormack scored 7pts (3frs) for the Killoe side who proved why they are favourites for this year’s championship. Their strength in depth was the difference with subs Daniel Mimnagh and Shane Dowd making an impact and both scored points. Within seconds of the throw-in Dromard created a goal chance but Ross McNerney hit his shot straight at Killoe keeper Stephen Coy. It was a costly miss and in the second minute Killoe grabbed their opening goal through Ronan McGoldrick. Mark Hughes added a point before a great goal from Larry Moran put Killoe seven ahead in the fourth minute. Dromard cut the gap to two in the 10th minute but Killoe responded to extend their lead to five in the 14th minute. A penalty by Cian Mimnagh and two Francie McGee points (one free) drew Dromard level in the 22nd minute and a purple patch before the break put them ahead by three; 2-10 to 2-07. The North Longford side went four ahead in the 31st minute through Mimnagh but Killoe were back to within one three minutes later. Dromard then missed a few frees as Killoe’s fitness began to tell. Points from McCormack (two), Paddy Thompson and Hughes put Killoe in front by two in the 47th minute. In the 58th minute they kicked excellent points to go five ahead. Dromard tried to rally but it was too little too late.
