Wolfe Tones retain Senior Hurling Championship

Wolfe Tones 2-10, Clonguish Gaels 1-10

by Deniese O’Flaherty

Wolfe Tones retained the Longford Hurling title with a three point win over Clonguish in the final played before the senior football final.

Just like last year the Mostrim club had too much for their opponents. County keeper Paddy Cullen scored 1-4 from corner forward and was a real thorn in Clonguish’s side. He picked up the man of the match accolade for his display.

In what was a tight first half the sides went in level at the break with county footballer Paul Barden scoring a goal for Clonguish in the 13thminute.

Clonguish were ahead by two in the 34th minute but Cullen hit over a free and goal for his side to turn the game in their favour. John Mulhearn added a second goal in the 45th minute. Although Clonguish fought back at the end Wolfe Tones held on.
