This Saturday, Longford host Louth in the third round of the Lory Meagher Cup group stages, with the game taking place at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park at 2pm.
Both sides have one win and one defeat each from their opening two games in the competition.
Longford and Louth have both beaten Lancashire. Last weekend, Longford came back from seven points down to narrowly beat the English side by two points, 0-17 to 1-12.
Louth had a much more comprehensive victory over Lancashire in the opening round of Lory Meagher fixtures, with the Wee County coming out on top by twenty points, 2-27 to 1-10.
Longford’s defeat was a last-gasp one point loss away to Leitrim, being edged out by 4-09 to O-20, while Louth suffered a seven point loss at home to Monaghan last weekend, losing by 5-12 to 3-11.
In the League, Longford reached the Allianz National Hurling League Division 3B Final, losing by four points to Fermanagh.
Louth played at the higher Division 3A, but only survived relegation by having a better scoring average than Warwickshire, with their contest ending in a draw. They both lost their other four games against Tyrone, Roscommon, Armagh and Monaghan.
Longford will definitely be missing the injured John Mulhern and Ronan Sheahan, while Evan Tully (ankle), and Daire Reagan are doubtful.
Louth will definitely be without corner forward Paul Matthews, who was shown a straight red card ten minutes into the second-half of last week’s defeat to Monaghan. However, in midfielder Mark Gahan and half-forward Sean Kerrisk, they possess plenty of scoring power that Longford will have to curb if a home win is to be achieved.
