U13 All County Competition

Our U13 Competition enters the finals stage this Thursday as both the Shield and Cup finals take place in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, see below for fixtures. Last Thursday seen Northern Gaels qualify for the Cup Final where they will meet Longford Slashers and in a very close and hard fought Shield semi final North Longford will take on East Longford in the first game of the night.

This U13 competition was designed so as to give more players the chance to play 15 a side football against teams of a similar ability. There are 11 teams taking part which are made up of 5 Clubs, 2 Amalgamations and 4 Regional Units and those teams are as follows: Clonguish Óg, East Longford (Wolfe Tones Óg/Clonbroney/St. Vincents), Granard Ballymore, Killoe Óg, Longford Slashers, Mid Longford (Carrick Sarsfields/St. Dominics Moydow Harpers Óg), North Longford (St. Colmcilles/St. Francis), Northern Gaels, South Longford (Ballymahon Forgney Gaels/Southern Gaels), St. Patricks Óg and Western Gaels.

The competition had been drawn up in a blitz type format that would allow each team two matches per fixture with winning teams progressing and losing teams going through the back door with the chance of still reaching one of two finals.

Club Development

Our three club development facilitators have been busy getting around to all our Underage Sections conducting a review or where the club is currently at as regards club development needs and this process will continue in the weeks and months ahead as clubs identify there most pressing developmental need and Longford C&G will deliver a workshop to address these needs throughout the summer.

Schools Coaching

Our school coaching has now entered its final few weeks. In the last few weeks we have offered schools the opportunity to have blitzes run within their own school and we have a full program set out until Friday the 19th of June. This is a great opportunity for school kids to get to play organised games where otherwise they might not get the chance.

Our Primary Schools outdoor hurling championship Division 1 continued last week as all 3 rounds are now complete with only finals to be fixed. Last week seen the Division 2, 3 and Camogie blitz finals take place with Killasonna claiming the Division 2 title, Ballinalee taking home the Division 3 title and Colehill capturing the Camogie title.
