Coaching & Games: 22nd June 2015

To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section of the Longford Leader where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.

20/20 Communication

As per contact from Damien all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries’ address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (secretary.clubname.longford@gaa.ie) and one for the underage section (secretarybng.clubname.longford@gaa.ie). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.

20/20 Vision For Longford Coaching Workshops

Grattan Gaels First Aid

On the back of our club facilitator visits some clubs have already being taking action on the areas that they highlighted from the visit. One of those clubs is Grattan Gales who identified the club needing to attract more female adults to the club and to create an environment that would be attractive for females to be involved in. They also identified the clubs need to up skill as regards first aid training so they combined both areas and ran a first aid course that was attended 9 mná an chlub now known as the “Grattan Gaels Nightingales”. This was a great initiative and the club should see the benefits of this for years to come, comhghairdeas.

Club Development

Our three club development facilitators have been busy getting around to all our Underage Sections conducting a review or where the club is currently at as regards club development needs and this process will continue in the weeks and months ahead as clubs identify there most pressing developmental need and Longford C&G will deliver a workshop to address these needs throughout the summer.

Schools Coaching

Our school coaching is now complete for this school year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the principals and teachers for their cooperation during the year and to wish everyone an enjoyable and well-earned summer break.

Our Primary Schools outdoor hurling championship Division 1 Cup final took place last Wednesday where St. Marys Edgeworthstown took on the reining champions Colehill NS. This turned out to be a real humdinger of a match which was in the balance for the entire game with St. Marys in the driving seat throughout until a late surge from Colehill pipped them at the death to claim back to back titles and prove that 2014 wasn’t a flash in the pan. The Div 1 Shield final took place on Tuesday the 23rd and was contested by Killoe NS & Newtownforbes NS with the result not known at the time of going to print therefore details will be in next weeks notes.

Development Squad

Our U13 skills school will have its second session this Saturday the 27th at 10am in a venue TBC on our website as the week progresses. All clubs will be contacted in advance.

The U14 football squad had a challenge against the Killoe Óg Feile team last Saturday which went went well. There was a lot of the panel away so it was a good challenge for both sides. This group will have a summer football camp on the 1st July and a blitz at home on the 4th July against Louth and Sligo.
The U15 squad got back up and running on Saturday last with a session and they will have another this Saturday with their football camp also on the 1st July and a blitz at home on the 4th July.
The U16 team had two coaching sessios last week on Thursday and Saturday. They will now play Offaly in a challenge on Saturday the 27th and on Wednesday the 1st they start the Fr. Manning Cup with a home game in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park against Laois.

The very best of luck to all Longford teams in the Football Feile this weekend.
