To keep in touch with everything on a week-to-week basis you can keep an eye on the Coaching & Games section where fixtures and notes will be updated weekly.
20/20 Communication
As per contact from Damien all correspondence with clubs will now be conducted via email and through the club secretaries’ address ONLY. There are two addresses per club, one for the adult club (secretary.clubname.longford@gaa.ie) and one for the underage section (secretarybng.clubname.longford@gaa.ie). It is all clubs responsibility to ensure someone is monitoring these accounts and passing the information to the relevant people.
Leaving Cert
Congratulations to all our County minors on their Leaving Cert results and we hope they get the offer they want this week. Throughout the year, as part of 20/20, we provided support to these players through a careers adviser and we hope that this in some way assisted these young men in selecting courses that will suit their interests.
Underage Match Monitors
In the last week Longford GAA have sent a monitor to observe a number of matches from U8 to minor level to observe a number of areas including Code of Conduct adherence, Respect Initiative adherence, standards of facilities, conduct of spectators to name a few. To date a number of issues have been flagged and Longford GAA will be working with the clubs and relevant stakeholders to address the issues, find solutions and implement change so that our games can be a more enjoyable experience for all concerned. We appreciate all clubs cooperation and assistance throughout this process.
Development Squads
Last weekend was a very busy weekend for our Hurling and Football squads. Firstly our U14 footballers traveled to Louth to play against Meath, Louth and Westmeath. They had a tough start against a very strong Meath team in the first game who were the stand out team in the blitz. The second game against Louth was a cracker that ebbed and flowed with a big finish from Longford to get a draw at the final whistle. The final game against Westmeath started well but the Longford lads tired in the second half and Westmeath pulled away at the end. It was a similar story for the U15 footballers that played Kildare in their first game; Longford played some great football but just couldn’t convert their chances as they lost out to an extremely strong Kildare team. There was no break for Longford who had Carlow waiting in the wings and this was a telling factor as the lads tired in the second half and Carlow pulled away the victors. There were some good performances from both squads it was just a pity a lot of players were missing due to summer holidays they could have pushed on more.
Our U14 and U16 hurlers continued their preparation for the All Ireland “C” at the weekend. They both traveled to Mullingar to play challenge games against Clonkill. These were two very competitive games for both squads who then traveled to Croke Park to watch the cracker of a game between Galway and Tipperary. Both squads will continue their training this weekend.

Club Development
There are still a number of clubs that need to return their Questionnaires and SWOT Analysis and clubs should get back to their facilitator as soon as possible. There are also a number of clubs who have still to confirm what developmental program they want run within their club. Paddy or Damien can be contacted in this regard.
Schools Programs
As all our kids will be excited to hear, school is just around the corner so we are
planning our various schools initiatives for the year ahead. Our Post Primary programs will kick off first with our schools coaching, TY courses, indoor Pella, 7 a side blitzes and Leinster blitzes all comencing from early September. At Primary level we have already booked in a GAA teachers coaching workshop for St. Marys NS Edgeworthstown which will take place on September 8th and our coaching will be based within 4 Urban Centers within the county up until Christmas.
