Longford GAA Events Calendar
For 2016 we have introduced an Events Calendar on our website at https://longfordgaa.ie/cg-calendar/ This calendar contains everything a Longford GAA person might need to know from our full fixtures program to Club workshops to County Board meetings to National fixtures to other large sporting events so as everyone can see what’s happening in the weeks and months ahead. Any changes made will be updated on the calendar in real time and will constantly evolve as different scenarios arise. This should be people’s first port of call for information regarding Longford GAA events and a detailed schedule can even be printed off from the agenda heading.
Longford GAA Website
We are doing a lot of work updating or website www.longfordgaa.ie with information and resources that people might be interested in and trying to use the website as the first source for all information someone might want to find out. Some new additions include the Master fixtures plan which can be downloaded by clicking https://longfordgaa.ie/download-fixtures/ additional information includes an updated Go Games section that includes fixtures, rules, things to know as well as U12 fixtures and rules for all our competitions. www.longfordgaa.ie/coaching-go-games/ and click Downloads.
We now have all underage mentors contacts available by following www.longfordgaa.ie/contacts/ and clicking the relevant tab.
We also have a new referees section that is available on the home page and finally something that is still a work in progress, as there is a lot of information to collate, but we are developing a player profile section for all our football squads that will include a photo and some player information that can be accessed through www.longfordgaa.ie/development-squad-news/
Underage Club Workshops
The roll out of our 54 workshops for the year is well under way and will continue every Monday and Tuesday as per the calendar as outlined above. For 2016 we decided to put a comprehensive program in place where every Underage Section will receive three Workshops delivered within their own Club, for their own mentors and specific to their own Clubs needs. All these dates have been assigned and communicated to Clubs and can be found on the Calendar. Every date is on a Monday or a Tuesday running until the 28th of June.
Nutrition & Health Promotion
This Friday sees Theresa’s internship come to an end after four months as she heads back to college for the remainder of the year. The program of Nutrition & Health Promotion that Theresa has delivered in that time has been one of the most positive programs we have ran in recent times. This sort of initiative would not have been possible for Coaching & Games without Theresa’s expertise. During the 4 months Theresa has visited 20 Primary school, 5 Post Primary schools and all 18 Underage Sections were assigned a workshop each (all schools received multiple visits). We really got through a huge body of work and it is with great credit to Theresa that she completed everything in a prompt and professional manner. We in Longford GAA would like to wish Theresa the very best of good luck with her studies and no doubt our paths will cross in the future.
Code of Ethics
To date almost 120 people have attended this workshop so far this year. We have one more course planned for a North Longford venue on Monday week the 9th. If anyone is still interested in completing this course please call Lorraine on 043 3345 219 to put your name on the list for the next available place.
U12 Longford Leitrim Mini League
2016 will see the continuation of our link up with Leitrim GAA for our U12 Mini Leagues. This competition enters its 3rd year and has grown again for 2016. This year will see 12 Longford and 12 Leitrim Clubs take part in three divisions over a 5/6 week period starting in June. Details of the parings were released at the Go Games info night of the 23rd of March and fixtures are currently on the website as outlined above.
Foundation Award
We have scheduled another Foundation Award to take place on May 14th and this will be the last course for the year. If people are interested in doing the Award please contact Lorraine on the number below to book your place, as spaces are limited.
Development Squads
All information on our squads will be updated on our website at https://longfordgaa.ie/development-squad-news/ and clicking the relevant squad.
A new section to our Development Squad page is player profiles for all our squad members. We are currently compiling their profile information and then we will get their photos taken to go with the profile.
Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps
This week and next will see Damien visit every Primary School in the County to promote the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps and he will be modelling the new gear which looks really stunning (Lime Green and dark Grey). Due to various reasons there have been some date changes for some of our camp from what was advertised earlier in the year but below is now the confirmed schedule which will not change. We have been fielding requests for information since January from people looking to book holidays and not wanting to miss their favourite camp so now the Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp website is live and can be view at https://www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie/ where all details of our camps can be accessed and online bookings are the best way of making you booking and it ensures that your gear will be available during the camp (the same cannot be said with on the day bookings)..
