Longford’s footballers begin their 2023 Allianz Football League Division 3 campaign under new manager Paddy Christie with a trip to Brewster Park to face Fermanagh on Saturday 28th January under floodlights at 6pm.
Longford then have three of their next four league games at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park when they meet local rivals Westmeath on Sunday, 5th February and Offaly on Sunday, 5th March either side of the visit of 2020 Munster Champions Tipperary on Sunday, 26th February.
In what is sure to be a very competitive Division 3, Longford face three Ulster opponents with away games against the 2020 Ulster Champions, Cavan on Sunday 19th February and Down on Saturday 18th March before their final league game at home to Antrim on Sunday, 26th March.
With four home games in this year’s league campaign, Paddy Christie will be hoping for an improvement on our return from these games compared to 2022 when we secured a solitary home win over Wicklow. Ultimately it was good performances away to Westmeath and Laois which secured our Division 3 status for 2023.

In the hurling, Adrian Moran takes charge of Longford for a second year after a relatively successful first year which saw his charges narrowly lose out in the Allianz Hurling League Division 3B final to Leitrim and also reach the Lory Meagher Cup final in Croke Park last May.
Longford begin their hurling league campaign when they welcome local rivals Cavan to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday, 4th February and have a bye the following weekend before they make the journey to Birmingham on 25th February to meet Warwickshire. On Sunday 12th March, we meet English opposition again when Lancashire visit Glennon Brothers Pearse Park before we travel to meet Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon in our final league game.
Longford secured wins over three of their four opponents in last year’s competition, the exception being Warwickshire who were relegated from Division 3A last season, so Adrian Moran will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s good league form and hope that his charges can go one better than last season when they narrowly lost the Division 3B final to Fermanagh.
