The Longford Team to take on Leitrim in the 2026 Lory Meagher Cup Final has been named by Diarmuid Cahill and his management team.
The side features a mix of youthful exuberance and essential experience as Longford look to lift the Lory Meagher Cup for the first time since 2014.
Johnny Maher will start between the sticks and the Kilmacud man has been in great form all year, recording the lowest number of goals conceded in the competition and pulling off some fine saves in the crucial wins over Cavan and Monaghan.
Longford’s full back line have been equally as mean in defence with Ciarán McNally, Seán Lancaster and James Connell consistently performing to a high level and leaving Longford with the best defensive record in the group stages.
The half back line of Johnny Casey, Martin Farrell and Evan Tully have contributed 4-11 to Longford’s Lory Meagher Cup tally and that mix of experience and skill will be essential to Longford’s drive for silverware tomorrow.
Captain Reuben Murray will head up the midfield battle alongside Paddy Lynam. The strong pairing will be eager to get a foothold early against a tricky Leitrim midfield.
Wolfe Tones will make up the half forward line with the hugely experienced Cathal Mullane hoping to add a second Lory Meagher medal to the collection while on the other wing, Maitiu O’Donohoe has been a strong presence throughout the year and Ronan Courtney in the centre has been a major scoring threat throughout the competition.
The full forward line of Joe Rabbitt, David Buckley and Micheál Mulcahy have scored a combined 5-14 in the championship so far and they will be a crucial cog in the wheel as Longford look to bridge the 12 year gap.
The bench will prove a crucial factor in this ever so close contest with little separating the sides throughout the year. The experience of replacement backs Eamon Allen, Daire Regan, Adam Quinn, Oisin Gately and Kealan Cox coupled with Dairmuid Caslin’s power will be important options for the management team in the aim to quell Leitrim’s forwards while Seán Tiernan, Dan Crossan, Niall Hawes, Killian Courtney and Stephen Murray will all pose serious goal threats should they be called into action in Croke Park.
It’ll be a fascinating affair!
