Longford 2-13 v 3-09 Fermanagh
at Kingspan Breffni Park
Longford’s U15 Hurling team rounded off a pulsating year by lifting the Hibernia Cup and securing success on the national stage for the first time since 2019.
Having topped the group with four wins from five matches, Longford’s rising hurling talent faced a Fermanagh team who pushed them all the way in the group stages back in May.
The final was to prove equally as tricky a task against the Ernesiders. Two first half goals from Thomas Reilly and Seanan Neilan helped Longford to a commanding ten point half time lead, 2-09 to 1-02. But Fermanagh weren’t out of the equation and gradually chipped away at the Longford advantage to level the game going into stoppage time.
But a point from a free in the last minute of the game from Ethan Donnellan had Longford in front when the referee blew the final whistle, ensuring Captain James Reynolds and his teammates climbed the steps of the stand in Kingspan Breffni Park to claim Longford’s second National underage Hurling Title in a month.
The future looks bright for Longford Hurling!!
